Leadership Program
The Leading Recruitment Teams program was developed to meet the needs of people leading recruitment teams within a commercial recruitment company.
The program content has been developed by Ross Clennett from a leadership framework developed by global HR consultancy, DDI from their thirty years of leadership research. This research has lead DDI to categorise the different types of leadership required within a company under three broad evolving leadership levels, People Leader, Operational Leader and Strategic Leader.
The Leading Recruitment Teams program uses the 'imperatives' of the People Leader role to build a powerful program of self discovery. These People Leader 'imperatives' are:
- Influence through personal power: Leaders who authentically know themselves, their strengths and their weaknesses, are those leaders who are most effective and generate the most loyalty from their team. Each person explores their individual strengths and how each of these strengths can both contribute to, and hinder, leadership success.
- Select talent: The identification of key competencies in a prospective recruiter is one of the most critical, but (typically) poorly executed, functions of team leaders in recruitment. Leaders learn to identify the critical success competencies of potential recruiters for their team.
- Inspire loyalty and trust: Effective leaders learn how to create and communicate key messages so that employees are clear on the vision and the goals of their team and how each individual assists the team accomplish the vision and goals.
- Manage Work: Balancing the twin roles of individual fee earning and leading others is important for both profitability and job satisfaction. Time Management techniques, specific for a leader in recruitment, are taught.
- Drive performance: Setting performance and behavior/values expectations and holding people accountable are critical factors in generating results and building a high performance culture. Structures for KPI's and accountability meetings are discussed and agreed upon.
- Coach for results: The ability to effectively coach for success and improvement is the skill that generates the greatest and fastest improvement in individual and team results. The language of effective coaching is taught and role plays are used to practise the specific language of coaching.
- Partner within, and across, teams: Creating and maintaining cross boundary partnerships is a key leadership role. How Team Leaders will build relationships amongst themselves is discussed and agreed.
The program is conducted across a period of approximately 6 to 9 months. An initial foundation workshop is held off-site for 1-2 days (depending upon participant numbers), followed by three follow up 1/2 day review workshops (typically held on-site). One-on-one coaching is also conducted between review sessions.
